Clinton Summer Youth Program: ‘Kids, Cops, Community’

In July of 2022, RYC implemented a summer works program open to students in the REAL Mentors Program. As only ten slots are available, to be accepted into the program students must complete an application, meet certain criteria and deadlines, and interview before a panel of three mentors.
The community-based program runs for five weeks. Students work at various Clinton town facilities and community centers two mornings each week from 8am to noon. Students and mentors (who act as adult supervisors) engage in a variety of projects and odd jobs ranging from helping out at the Senior Center, stocking shelves at WHEAT, and washing patrol cars at the CPD, to mention only a few.
2024 Mentor and Supervisor Miriam Hurley said, “We had the privilege of working with 10 amazing teenagers who not only learned valuable skills but also made a positive impact in their community.” While these students earn, they also learn how different community services play a critical role in how their town functions.
The summer works program is funded in part by Clinton PD and donations from local businesses who see the program as an investment in the community’s youth… one that is certain to pay huge dividends in years to come.
